Staff, students, families and friends of RMI Bangalore enjoyed a double party last week, when we celebrated the 2nd anniversary of the college’s opening alongside our first student graduation.
July 2009 saw the opening of the college in Koramangala, and arriving at our second birthday is a real landmark — after starting with only a handful of staff and students we now have 87 students across 6 programmes and 12 full-time faculty, plus a growing collection of visiting lecturers many of whom work locally in the design industry.
After the cutting of the birthday cake, our longest-serving lecturer Nick Lovegrove gave the audience an illustrated tour of highlights from the months and years since we opened, a number of surprise awards were handed out to students, and faculty spoke about their experiences and hopes for the students and for the college.
Celebrations continued with a fashion show featuring the collection of student Jenifer Jose, and then the business of the evening reached its climax with the graduation of our first batch of students, from Fashion Design, Interior Design and Visual Communication.
The night was far from over though, and as everyone enjoyed the food and drink, and meeting parents and families, we were treated to a special performance from The Itself Only’s, a student-staff rock band which had been specially assembled for the occasion. Finally DJ Agent Orange — aka Visual Communication student Arjun Nichani — kept the dancefloor suitably busy until closing time.
Everyone agreed the night was very well organised and a lot of fun! We’re looking forward to having lots more reasons to celebrate in the future.
Many thanks to VC student Akhil G Pillai for being our official photographer for the evening — a full set of pictures can be found on Facebook.
