We were very pleased to welcome local architect and designer Srikanth Black to the college this week.
Srikanth was invited in by Product Design lecturer Toby to critique the PD students’ furniture design projects, to provide expert guidance on local vendor contacts, and to help with decisions on materials.
Srikanth owns a limited edition furniture store in Bangalore, and has designed and built his own house, handling both exterior and interior. His “design language” adopts an eco-friendly approach to form and function and he works primarily with sustainable materials, designing everything from fashion store chains, boutiques, and open air restaurants to beauty salons, internet/gaming parlours, and jewellery shops.
During his visit Srikanth was very keen to provide input to student projects rather than just giving a lecture, as he believes that students learn much more by working rather than sitting and listening. While on campus he also spent some time giving tutorials to Interior Design students, providing them with individual feedback on their current lighting design project.
