At the start of the April term the brief given to all of our students was to create an exhibition, showcasing their work… in just four days!
The first task was to give the exhibition a name and a theme. Various groups submitted proposals, which were then put to the vote. The winning concept was ‘Levitate’. The winning group then branded the event, designing a logo and promotional posters which were distributed around the city. A Facebook group and email campaign aimed at local design firms was also launched.
Meanwhile students from our Interior Design course devised the exhibition’s layout and created specially themed rooms. They collected and curated the work so that each room had a unique feel. Other groups of students built a typographic installation, made a DVD of student work, and created video projections… all of which helped to transform our reception area.
The final two days were spent in hanging the work, which involved all the students together. The whole college was a hive of activity, the finishing touches being completed just as the doors opened. After being given the project on Tuesday morning, the event opened on Friday night and was well attended by parents, students from other colleges and a number of local professionals. Saturday continued to see a steady stream of visitors attending. The response was great, people seemed extremely impressed, both with the quality of the work and the professionalism and creativity with which it was displayed. A big congratulations to all the students involved.
